Invented in the fifteenth century in Italy, the Minchiate Tarot is composed of 41 Major Arcana. It originated as a card game containing an expanded set of trumps, which later became the Major Arcana. It includes most of the classic Tarot images along with cards representing the twelve signs of the Zodiac, the four elements, and some traditional virtues such as Justice and Strength. Certain classic images have been altered radically, and thus the emotional impact of the Minchiate can be radically different from other Tarot decks.

By the Renaissance, the Minchiate Tarot was widely adopted as a divination tool. The early Tarot symbolism on this deck has its roots in Medieval and Renaissance Europe and has grown to include much more!
